We’ve got a few great opportunities to join The Paper Birds’ team – we’re looking for 3 Performer/Facilitators to reprise our roles in future Feel Me tours and join our pool of freelancers to deliver our participation programme. And in addition to these roles we’re also looking for a Producer to join us for maternity cover and up to 3 Trustees to join our Board.

Key Details for the Producer (Maternity Cover) Role

Responsible to:         Executive Producer

Contract:                   (Freelance) 22.5 hours – 3 days per week or equivalent worked  flexibly

Based at:                 Remote working

Line Manage:            Freelance creative and touring teams on a project by project basis

Timeframe:               9 – 12 months fixed term, from August 2024 onwards

Fee:                          £165 per day, plus expenses

Job Summary

The Producer is a key member of The Paper Birds’ small team, working closely with the Executive Producer to achieve the company’s vision and mission of engaging, championing, and celebrating young people – their voices, their views and their individuality.

This part-time freelance role would suit a confident and motivated Producer, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in producing/administering/coordinating small scale touring theatre or dance.

You should enjoy project management and arts administration, be an excellent organiser, and someone who is passionate about the ways theatre can change people’s lives and make society a better place to be.

Key Details for the Performer/Facilitator Roles

We are looking for 3 Performer-Facilitators, who are excellent movers, to reprise the 3 roles in our current touring show Feel Me across autumn 2024 and spring 2025, as well as join our pool of freelancers to deliver our ongoing participation programme of workshops in schools across the country.

We are seeking 3 Artists who have a genuine passion for developing creativity through theatre with young people. We need people who are exceptional communicators and experienced facilitators, people who have great energy and are as engaging to watch on stage, as when they are leading a room full of teenagers. We are looking for people whose artistic practice is underpinned by a knowledge of contemporary theatre and who are excited to travel nationally and internationally leading workshops and performing.

Performer/Facilitator Job Description

We are looking for applicants of any gender aged 30 and under.

As well as performing in the show, you will be supporting the Technical Manager with get-in/get-outs/load ins and touring logistics. You will be contributing to post-show chats with live audiences. You will be creating social media content from the road, supported by our Marketing Manager.

You will be a key company member and public face of our team, reaching and inspiring more young people throughout the world leading our engaging workshops exploring the 5 Key ingredients of our work: Verbatim, Movement, Character & Narrative, Exposing the Method, and Motif.

Project Dates

Facilitation workshop training and show rehearsal weeks:

Mon 16 – Fri 20 Sep

Mon 23 – Fri 27 Sep

Mon 30 Sep – Fri 04 Oct

Dates are all inclusive – you must be available throughout.

You should also have excellent availability from mid September – end November 2024 and mid January – end March 2025 for touring. Within this period we need you to be able to prioritise The Paper Birds.

Additionally, you should have good availability for regular ad hoc workshop facilitation in schools across the country, as part of our ongoing participation programme..

You will be required to attend a minimum of 3 of the quarterly meetings held per year (held via Zoom) plus an additional annual Away Day, for which travel expenses will paid within the UK.

The trustees are being recruited on a rolling basis from April 2024, so there is no deadline for application, but anyone interested should apply as soon as possible.

Successful applicants will receive a full induction and be assigned a current Board Member to support their integration into the company.
